After saying goodbye to London the group was ready to set off bright and early on the next part of their UK adventure. The next destination on the tour was Oxford City, the location of Oxford University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the world.
Arriving in Oxford one of the first things the group noticed was how attractive and vibrant the city was; the beautiful architecture of the buildings and the energy of the university students made a real first impression.?
The group had lunch outside the world renowned Ashmolean which is home to an impressive collection of artefacts and historical treasures from around the world.
Everyone managed to get a photo of the Radcliffe Camera- one of most photographed buildings in the city. This quintessential Oxford landmark primarily functionsas a library for humanities.
A real highlight of Oxford was the Bodleian Library. One of the world’s oldest public libraries, the students marvelled at its layout and impressive collections.
FACT:? The library started off with 20 books; it currently holds more than 12 million items, contains 117 miles of shelving andhas seating space for up to 2500 readers. A staggering 5000 books and articles arrive every Wednesday, all of which need to be catalogued and stored.
?After the tour there was some time at the end for the group to do some shopping andsouvenir buying on Oxfords main highstreets.
The School Travel Company hopes this day trip to Oxford will inspire the students to do well in their studies and see the importance of learning. Maybe someday they will come back and enrol at Oxford University to join some of world’s most Influential people, such as Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, Oscar Wilde and John Locke to name a very few.
Everyone returned to the YHA Oxford accommodation for dinner and a short rest. The evening event The School Travel Company had prepared for the group was a magical and enchanting trip to Warner Brothers Harry Potter world tour. All ofthe students were really excited and this was undoubtedly one of the unforgettable experiences for them so far.
The tour began at the film sets iconic Great Hall filled with costumes of all the main characters.
Walking down Diagon Alley, the group saw all the different magical shops and stalls. Some of the group even managed to try some of the famous butterbeer.
The students managed to catch the train to Hogwarts School and go through into platform 9 ?.
After an inspiring and magical day the group returned back to their accommodation in Oxford.
